CHAPTER 2 — THE REVELATION

The head housekeeper folded her arms confidently.
"What are you smiling at?"
The new maid carefully stood up.
Every eye in the room followed her.
The silence became unbearable.
Then she finally spoke.
Softly.
Clearly.
"My father told me this would happen."
The head housekeeper laughed.
Several others nervously joined in.
But the young woman continued.
"He said some people mistake authority for ownership."
The laughter stopped.
The head housekeeper frowned.
"What does that mean?"
The new maid reached into her pocket.
And removed a small envelope.
The room froze.
Inside was a photograph.
She placed it gently on the table.
The head housekeeper glanced down.
Then her face changed.
The photograph showed the mansion.
But standing beside the owner...
Was the new maid.
Years younger.
Smiling beside him.
The head housekeeper suddenly felt uneasy.
"Who are you?"
The young woman looked directly into her eyes.
