. CHAPTER 7 — Ava Walked Down the Aisle

The wedding aisle still waited beneath the roses. Only now it no longer belonged to Celeste. The musicians had stopped. The guests had forgotten their champagne. Every camera in the room remained fixed on the ruined ceremony that had become a trial.
Daniel stood and faced the crowd.
“My name is Daniel Hart. Eight years ago, I failed to protect someone I loved because I trusted the people around me more than I trusted my own heart. Today I learned I have a daughter. Her name is Ava Ward.”
Ava hid behind Lena’s coat.
Daniel continued, “She entered this hotel through a service door because powerful people decided she was inconvenient. That ends now.”
Celeste made a choking sound. “You are humiliating me.”
Daniel looked at her as if she were a stranger. “No. You did that yourself in the corridor.”
He turned to Ms. Greer. “Start emergency filings. I want protection orders for Lena and Ava, a full investigation into Vale Capital, and a press statement within the hour.”
Ms. Greer nodded. “Already drafted.”
Edmund Vale cursed under his breath.
Then Daniel looked at the princess dress. “Is there a seamstress in the hotel?”
A woman near the back raised her hand. “My sister works wardrobe for the theater downstairs.”
Within minutes, someone brought a sewing kit. Lena tried to refuse attention, but Ava touched the torn sleeve and whispered, “Can it be fixed?”
The seamstress knelt in the aisle and stitched the sleeve while billionaires watched. No one laughed. No one moved. It was the first honest act the room had seen all day.
When it was done, Daniel held the dress out to Ava. “You don’t have to wear it. You don’t have to do anything for me. But I want you to have it back clean and safe.”
Ava looked at her mother. Lena, still crying, gave the smallest nod.
The girl took the dress.
Then, without anyone telling her to, Ava walked slowly down the wedding aisle—not as a flower girl, not as a prop, not as a secret—but as a child who had been denied a name and was finally being seen.
Daniel waited at the end with tears in his eyes.
Ava stopped in front of him. “Are you really my dad?”
He swallowed. “Yes.”
She studied him with heartbreaking seriousness. “Then why didn’t you come to my birthdays?”
Daniel closed his eyes.

Every guest heard his answer.
“Because adults lied. And because I was not brave enough to question them. I will spend the rest of my life being braver.”
