. CHAPTER 6 — The Husband Who Finally Saw

When Daniel returned to the front steps, Sofia was being guided toward the police car. Her sons clung to the officer’s belt, crying so hard they could barely breathe.
“Stop,” Daniel said.
The command was not loud, but it carried the weight of ownership over the house, the estate, and the chaos Vivian had created.
The officers paused.
Daniel walked down the steps, phone in hand, the security footage already sent to the lead officer’s device. Vivian followed behind him, barefoot now, panic cracking through her elegant control.
“Daniel,” she hissed. “Do not do this in public.”
He turned on her. “You made it public when you had an innocent woman arrested in front of her children.”
Guests watched from the doorway. Staff moved closer. The night itself seemed to hold its breath.
The lead officer checked the video. His expression changed before he finished watching.
He looked at Sofia. “Ma’am, I’m going to remove those cuffs.”
Sofia blinked, not understanding.
A second later, cold metal opened around her wrists.
Her sons threw themselves into her arms. She collapsed to her knees with them, clutching both boys as if the police lights had nearly swallowed them whole.
Vivian’s mouth opened. No sound came out.
Daniel faced the crowd. “The necklace was planted. The security cameras recorded it.”
A murmur spread through the guests. Someone gasped Vivian’s name. Another person stepped away from her as if cruelty were contagious.
Sofia looked up slowly. “Recorded?”
Daniel nodded, pain in his eyes. “Everything.”
The word carried more than the necklace. Vivian heard it too. Her face drained.
The lead officer turned toward her. “Mrs. Blackwood, we need to ask you several questions.”
Vivian forced a laugh. “This is a misunderstanding. My husband is emotional. The maid manipulated him.”
Daniel stepped closer. “Say one more word about her.”
Vivian stared at him, stunned by the coldness in his voice.
For years, Daniel had been polite when she was sharp, quiet when she was cruel, embarrassed when she mocked staff in front of friends. He had confused elegance with kindness, charity galas with compassion, beauty with goodness.
Now he saw the woman beneath the silk.
And he looked sickened.
Sofia pressed her sons’ faces into her shoulders so they would not see Vivian being led aside.
But they heard Vivian whisper, “You’re choosing her over me?”
May you like
Daniel’s answer was immediate.
“I’m choosing the truth.”
