CHAPTER 3 — THE WARNING EVERYONE MISSED

The dog continued barking.
Pulling.
Refusing to let the bride move forward.
Then suddenly—
A loud cracking sound echoed through the church.
Everyone froze.
Instinctively turning toward the altar.
For a moment, nobody understood what they were seeing.
Then reality hit.
Part of a large decorative structure above the altar had broken loose.
Heavy metal supports hidden behind the decorations collapsed.
Wood.
Glass.
Metal fixtures.
Everything crashed downward.
Exactly where the bride had been walking seconds earlier.
Screams erupted.
Guests jumped from their seats.
The church fell into chaos.
The bride stood frozen.
Staring at the wreckage.
Unable to speak.
Unable to breathe.
If she had taken only a few more steps...
She would have been directly beneath it.
Slowly, she looked down.
The dog was still standing beside her.
Still shaking.
Still staring toward the altar.
The same place it had been watching before everything happened.
Tears filled her eyes.
She dropped to her knees.
Wrapping her arms around the animal.
Around the friend who had protected her for years.
And who had just protected her once again.
The guests stood in stunned silence.
Because everyone now understood the same thing.
May you like
The dog hadn't ruined the wedding.
The dog had saved the bride's life.
