CHAPTER 3 — IT NEVER WAS YOUR HOUSE

The suitcase slipped from his hand.

The sound echoed through the room.

Then he reached inside and pulled out a folder.

Legal documents.

Property records.

Papers he had prepared long before coming home.

His wife stared at them in confusion.

"Everything I earned..."

His voice remained steady.

Cold.

"...was for this family."

A long silence followed.

Then he continued.

"But not for someone who treats my mother like this."

The color drained from her face.

"What are you saying?"

He stepped closer.

Placed the documents directly in front of her.

"You're leaving."

The room froze.

His mother looked up in shock.

His wife's hands began trembling.

"This is my house too."

The words barely escaped her mouth.

He leaned forward.

His eyes never leaving hers.

Then he delivered the sentence that destroyed everything she believed.

"It never was."

The papers revealed the truth.

The property.

The estate.

Every asset.

Everything had always belonged to his mother.

His wife stood speechless.

The confidence.

The arrogance.

The power she thought she possessed.

Gone in an instant.

And for the first time since he walked through the door, she understood something terrifying.

The woman she had spent years humiliating was the true owner of everything around her.
