The Ravenswood Fire Relief Fund had been created after four workers died at the Mercer Grand.
Television campaigns showed Logan embracing grieving families. Celebrities donated. The company promised tuition, housing, and medical care.
Most of the money moved into a consulting company called Blue Arc Events.
Blue Arc paid for the pool party, private jets, designer suits, and Logan’s online lifestyle channel.
Charles Mercer approved every transfer.
He defended them as fundraising expenses.
Auditors calculated that the company spent eight dollars creating publicity for every dollar delivered to victims.
One widow, Teresa Hall, lost her apartment after promised housing support never arrived.
Her daughter left college because the scholarship did not exist.
At a press conference, Charles said administrative delays were unavoidable.
Teresa stood in the audience.
“My husband died because your hotel ignored wiring reports. Then you used his photograph to buy champagne.”
The room fell silent.
