Richard Vale was arrested at a private refinery in Nevada.
The facility processed specialty metals for electric motors.
Agents found shredded documents, melted storage drives, and crates of counterfeit Aureus components.
Richard attempted to flee through a loading tunnel.
Inside his vehicle was a portable safe containing bearer bonds, false passports, and photographs of Mason taken over twenty years.
School.
Foster home.
First mechanic job.
Samuel’s funeral.
Cassandra’s engagement party.
Silas had been right about the surveillance.
Richard never stopped watching the child who might inherit the ring.
During interrogation, Richard called Benjamin Reed a naïve engineer who endangered thousands of jobs by threatening a supplier scandal.
“If the fraud became public, Aureus would have collapsed.”
“You locked him inside a burning wing,” the investigator said.
“I protected the company.”
“Then why steal from it for twenty years?”
Richard requested an attorney.
His empire included banks, suppliers, media companies, and charities used to launder influence. Vale Capital had purchased distressed Aureus debt, then created the distress through inflated component contracts.
The planned marriage was the final acquisition step.
If Mason signed, Vale Capital would control the company without a public takeover.
If he refused, Richard intended to use forged debts to seize Reed & Sons and pressure him later.
The workshop wedding had been selected because Cassandra said Mason felt safest there.
They turned his safest place into the location of coercion.
That detail angered him more than the tabloid insults.
A home or workplace becomes dangerous when another person studies what makes it meaningful and uses that knowledge as leverage.
Richard’s surveillance photographs included one of Mason teaching Rosa Alvarez how to adjust a bicycle chain.
A note beneath it read:
Subject builds loyalty through worker families.
Richard interpreted ordinary relationships as strategic assets because that was how he viewed people.
Mason asked that personal photographs of workers and children be returned or destroyed after legal review.
