The court offered to restore Maya’s birth certificate as Rose Eleanor Ashford.
She declined that exact change.
Her legal name became Maya Rose Bennett Ashford.
Maya remained because it was the name she had used to survive, study, work, and form friendships.
Rose honored the child Eleanor named.
Bennett honored Rosa, the woman who carried her through the service gate and died protecting her.

Maya answered:
