The Signature That Saved Her Company

Chapter 11 - The Signature That Saved Her Company

Audrey’s trust amendment had never been completed, but the law allowed an emergency protective action if two physicians confirmed she understood and communicated her intent.

Elias and a court-appointed neurologist evaluated her separately.

Audrey answered questions with eye movements and later with a letter board. The process exhausted her, but her decisions remained consistent.

She wanted all spousal rights removed.

She wanted Victor suspended.

She wanted the public-treatment division protected from sale.

Most importantly, she wanted the defective medical device reported immediately, even if disclosure damaged the company her father built.

Arthur prepared a revised emergency directive.

Audrey could not hold a pen.

A court officer read every sentence aloud while cameras recorded. Audrey approved each page through eye signals. Her right hand then guided a biometric stylus with Margaret’s support.

The signature was uneven and barely legible.

It was valid.

By sunset, independent trustees assumed control of Audrey’s shares. The board removed Victor and halted the sale. Regulators received the White Room records.

Vale Biomedical’s stock fell sharply the next morning.

News commentators accused Audrey of destroying shareholder value from a hospital bed. Victor’s allies suggested her neurological condition made her decisions unreliable.

Audrey watched the reports without sound.

Margaret offered to turn off the television.

Audrey moved her eyes downward.

No.

She wanted to see what truth cost.

Within days, families of the injured trial patients thanked her publicly for disclosing the defect. Engineers developed a repair. Hospitals returned affected units before more patients were harmed.

The company lost money.

It did not lose its purpose.

Elias told Audrey her father would have been proud.

A tear moved across her cheek.

May you like

This time it was not evidence of imprisonment inside her body.

It was grief finally allowed to move.
