Officer Santos opened the document Daniel handed him from the tablet.
A digital copy showed Claire transferring the property to Daniel six weeks earlier.
Claire felt no surprise.
Only confirmation.
“That signature is not mine,” she said.
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
“It was completed electronically.”
“The trust does not permit electronic transfer.”
Vanessa looked toward him.
“You said she signed.”
Daniel answered without looking at her.
“She did.”
Claire opened her leather folder and removed a certified county deed, the trust memorandum, and her identification.
Officer Santos compared the pages.
The rain ran from the edge of his cap.
Then his expression changed.
“This county seal is current,” he said, holding Claire’s deed.
Vanessa pointed at Daniel’s tablet.
“So is ours.”
