Mara completed the Ardent disclosure process and stepped down as temporary steward.
Her final vote created three rules.
Clinical safety officers could report directly to regulators without executive approval.
Patient settlements could not include secrecy about medical risk.
No family trust could override independent trial review.
The rules passed.
Hawthorne Biotech changed its name to Ardent Public Medical Research after patient families approved use of the word. The old family name remained in the historical archive, not above the headquarters.
Some shareholders objected.
Mara answered that reputations were not intellectual property requiring preservation.
The company recovered slowly.
Several drugs failed under stricter review. One later treatment succeeded because negative data was examined rather than hidden.
Employees discovered that honesty produced fewer dramatic launches and fewer preventable funerals.
Samuel’s portrait was removed from the boardroom at Eleanor’s request.
He had created Protocol Nine, but he had also spent years protecting Julian before recognizing the danger.
