The Divorce Without the Forged Page

Chapter 13 - The Divorce Without the Forged Page

The family court reopened the divorce after the federal indictment.

The forged amendment was excluded.

The authentic prenuptial agreement controlled.

Reed Dynamics remained Charlotte’s separate property. Ethan retained assets legally earned through his partnership before the criminal conduct. Joint property was divided under ordinary state law.

Charlotte could have pursued a larger share based on fraud and litigation costs.

She requested restitution for specific losses and nothing more.

Her attorneys questioned the choice.

Ethan had tried to take nearly everything.

Charlotte did not want the final decree to become a mirror of his greed. She wanted clarity, reimbursement and separation.

The judge granted the divorce.

There were no courthouse-step statements.

Charlotte signed inside a small conference room with Arthur and Maya present. She removed her wedding ring and placed it in an envelope, not because Ethan demanded its return but because she had decided what to do with it.

The central diamond was sold.

The proceeds funded technical assistance for litigants challenging altered electronic records. The plain gold band was melted into small identification tags for archive drives used by the review panel.

One ring became many tools for preserving evidence.

Margaret received the certified decree by mail.

She called Charlotte.

“I am sorry the first document carrying that title was a weapon.”

Charlotte answered, “This one is only an ending.”

That evening, she returned to the apartment she had rented after leaving the marital home. The rooms were smaller than the house Ethan tried to claim. They contained no hidden cameras, disputed archives or locked office drawers.

Charlotte ate takeout beside an unopened box of wedding photographs.

She did not destroy them.

The marriage had existed.

So had its ending.
