The authentic divorce ruling was issued under seal at 8:12 on Monday morning.
It denied Ethan operational control of Reed Dynamics, preserved the company as Charlotte’s separate property and ordered a full evidentiary hearing on the disputed amendment.
At 8:47, a different version appeared in Ethan’s secure attorney portal.
That version recognized the amendment, granted him temporary control and described Charlotte’s forensic evidence as inconclusive.
The clerk who received the first call assumed the judge had uploaded a corrected order.
By noon, Ethan’s team had certified copies.
The alteration occurred inside the court’s document-management system using credentials assigned to deputy clerk Simon Hale. Simon was on medical leave in another state.
Someone had created a remote session through a courthouse maintenance account.
The fake order carried Margaret’s seal because the forgers wanted it to appear connected to her earlier memorandum. It also included legal language copied from three opinions she wrote years before retirement.
Ethan believed the details made the decree convincing.
They made it traceable.
Reed Dynamics’ software compared legal phrases across public archives. Charlotte’s team identified exact passages, including one unusual punctuation error Margaret had corrected before publication. Only someone using an old internal draft could have copied it.
The draft existed in Margaret’s home archive.
Ethan had scanned that archive while helping her prepare retirement papers.
Charlotte reported the discrepancy before leaving the courthouse. The Judicial Integrity Office asked her not to reveal the investigation until Ethan acted under the order.
If he quietly requested clarification, intent would remain disputed.
If he used the false decree to seize assets, contact banks or remove Charlotte from the company, the conduct would establish knowing reliance.
Ethan did all three.
He sent the decree to Reed Dynamics’ board.
He instructed the family bank to freeze Charlotte’s accounts.
He scheduled a press conference on the courthouse steps.
The investigators watched every transmission.
