The Perfect Charity Family

Chapter 02 - The Perfect Charity Family

Claire inherited the foundation after Henry died two years earlier. She preferred quiet grants to public galas, but Grant insisted visibility protected the collection and attracted serious buyers.

Tonight’s centerpiece was a painting called The Orchard at Dawn.

It stood on the easel beside Lily.

Henry had painted it himself after Claire’s mother died. Henry never sold the painting.

Grant planned to auction it after dinner.

He told Claire the proceeds would fund a children’s arts center.

She believed him until that morning, when the foundation accountant sent her a message asking why the sale proceeds were being routed through Mercer Capital.

Grant’s private company.

His debt-ridden private company.

Claire arrived at the gala carrying questions.

Then she saw Lily on the floor.

Grant had not merely lost his temper.

He had revealed what mattered to him most.

The room.

The painting.

The performance.

Not the child.
