Chapter 06 - Grant Enters the Room
Grant entered without knocking.
He closed the door behind him and smiled at Lily as if the ballroom had never happened.
“There is our little star.”
Lily moved closer to Claire.
Grant noticed.
“Guests are waiting for the auction.”
“The painting is not being auctioned.”
Grant looked at Claire.
“We discussed this.”
“You told me it belonged to the foundation.”
“It does.”
“No. It belongs to Lily’s trust.”
Grant lowered his voice.
“Do not start a legal argument in front of her.”
Claire held up the phone.
“Did you forge my approval?”
He looked at the files.
Then at Lily.
“You do not understand the financing structure.”
“That is not an answer.”
“The money returns after the development closes.”
“When?”
Grant said nothing.
Claire stood.
“You used my signature to sell my daughter’s property.”
“Our daughter.”
Lily flinched.
Claire saw it.
Claire stepped between him and the child.
“You will not speak for her again.”
Grant’s jaw tightened.
“You are destroying everything over a croissant.”

“No. The croissant only made me stop explaining you to myself.”
