When Clara turned eighteen, Parliament held the formal ceremony recognizing her as heir.
She entered the great ballroom wearing pale blue, the same color she wore when she pointed at Elena years earlier.
The stuffed rabbit remained in her private room.
Elena attended in a simple dark dress with no title announced before her name.
Adrian addressed the nation.
“The Crown does not own children, parents, workers, records, or truth. It exists only while citizens consent to the responsibilities attached to it.”
Clara signed the constitutional oath.
Then she added a personal statement.
“My life was used to prove the monarchy was stable. Stability built on someone’s disappearance is not stability. It is silence.”
She announced a permanent independent office for children and workers inside royal households.
The first director was a former palace maid.
Traditional commentators complained.
Public support increased.
The monarchy survived not because the scandal was hidden.
It survived because the heir insisted that no institution deserved survival more than people deserved truth.
At the heir ceremony, Clara wore no new jewels.
She carried the silver-crescent cloth Elena had kept through confinement and Sophia’s letter folded inside a small case.
The objects represented both mothers without turning either into a costume.
After signing the oath, Clara asked palace employees to sign a separate charter guaranteeing direct complaint channels to Parliament.
The chief steward hesitated.
No heir had ever invited staff signatures into a constitutional ceremony.
