The records had been prepared years earlier in case Elena ever reappeared.

Clara saw one headline on a tablet.

She threw the device across the room.
“I claimed her first!”
Elena held her.
The child feared that adults would take her mother away again if enough strangers disliked her.
Adrian requested emergency privacy protections.
He also released the verified birth record, clinic payments, and Sophia’s letter with Clara’s consent.
He refused to publish Elena’s medical files.
“Evidence of what was done to her is not permission to expose everything about her.”
Former workers from the institution began coming forward.
They described women held under false names, sedated after family disputes, and denied access to attorneys.
Elena’s case opened an investigation larger than the palace.
The institution had served wealthy families for decades.

She had entered the palace seeking one child.

Elena invited no cameras inside.
Instead, palace staff released the size of Beatrice’s private wardrobe, the cost of the secret clinic, and the public funds used to confine Elena.
The comparison changed the question.
Safety had never been threatened by Elena’s lack of wealth.
It had been threatened by Beatrice’s access to unlimited institutional power.
Former maids also described being told never to make eye contact with royals. Clara had broken the rule simply by looking directly at one woman.
