Everything Changed

Chapter 15 - Everything Changed
The wedding flowers were gone. Vanessa’s belongings had been removed under legal supervision. Every staff member received direct access to independent security. No one could be dismissed without review when Lily’s safety was involved.
Elena stayed.
The music box returned to Lily’s nightstand.
Dante changed too.
He attended school mornings.
He ate dinner without a phone.
He listened when Lily spoke, even when the story took too long.
Elena also changed the household rules. Lily could request any trusted staff member during difficult conversations. Nursery recordings belonged to Lily’s protection, not Dante’s control. No adult could remove keepsakes from Sofia without Lily’s permission and Elena’s review.
Dante accepted every rule.
Power had always meant deciding for others. Fatherhood, he was learning, sometimes meant building rules that limited him too.
One afternoon, Lily found him standing beneath the chandelier where he had first seen her crying.
She carried Teddy under one arm.
“Daddy?”
“Yes?”
“Why did everything change that day?”
Dante looked toward the front doors.
He knelt before Lily.
“Because I came home and saw the truth.”
Lily placed her small hand against his cheek, near the fading scratch.
“No,” she said. “Because you finally listened.”
Dante closed his eyes.
His daughter was right.
