Dante knew nothing about guardianship papers.
His attorneys handled wills, trusts, security arrangements, and every legal wall around Lily. Vanessa had asked questions in recent months, but always gently. What would happen if Dante traveled? Who made medical decisions? Would marriage give Vanessa authority at school?
Dante mistook planning for care.
Now he saw structure beneath the questions.
Vanessa wanted access.
Dante looked at Vanessa.
“Who prepared the guardianship documents?”
Vanessa recovered a piece of her confidence.
“You asked me to help protect Lily.”
“I asked who prepared them.”
She looked away.
Dante took out his phone and called his attorney, Samuel Price.
“Check every document Vanessa Cole requested, drafted, or discussed involving Lily.”
Vanessa stepped toward him.
“You cannot turn one emotional incident into a conspiracy.”

“No,” he said. “You already did that.”
