The Night Flight Files

Chapter 11 - The Night Flight Files
Investigators found evidence connecting Richard to more than financial crimes.
A folder called Night Flight contained records of travelers transferred between private aircraft without standard customs documentation.
Some were wealthy clients avoiding scrutiny.
Others were vulnerable workers transported under contracts they did not understand.
A construction company used the airport to bring laborers into the country, confiscate passports, and move them to remote job sites.
Richard received fees for expedited access.
Gabriel recognized one company.
It had built a hospital extension for Navarro Global seven years earlier.
His own corporation had hired it through layers of subcontractors.
The discovery implicated him—not in knowledge, but in failure to examine the chain supporting his success.
He announced an independent audit of every Navarro Global labor contract.
Board advisers objected.
“You are volunteering evidence against your own company.”
“Yes.”
“You could lose billions.”
“Yes.”
Amelia watched him sign the order.
“Are you doing this because of my father?”
“I am doing it because ownership does not become ethical only when the guilty person is someone else.”
The audit found passport retention and wage theft at two overseas projects.
Gabriel compensated workers, terminated contractors, and testified before regulators.
His company’s value dropped.
Richard appeared on television.
“Even Navarro admits his empire was built on exploitation.”
Gabriel responded publicly.
“My company benefited from systems I failed to inspect. Accountability is not proven by finding someone worse.”
The statement changed the investigation’s tone.
Employees from multiple corporations began reporting abuses.
The airport established a labor rights office independent of management and government enforcement contractors. Workers could seek help without risking immediate immigration consequences.
Elena attended the opening.
She placed Miguel’s badge in a glass case beside a simple sentence:
A worker’s warning is not an inconvenience.
Gabriel disliked turning his father into a symbol.
May you like
Elena understood.
“Then make sure the symbol changes behavior.”
