The next morning, airport police stopped Gabriel beneath Gate Twelve.
Chief Warren Pike presented a warrant alleging corporate espionage and theft of confidential records.
Federal investigators had not authorized it.
The warrant came from a local judge whose election campaign received donations from companies connected to Richard.
Passengers recorded as officers placed Gabriel in handcuffs.
Amelia arrived before they moved him.
“I am his attorney.”
Pike blocked her.
“This is a secure operation.”
“You are arresting the majority owner of the airport using a warrant issued after evidence of corruption was discovered.”
Pike smiled. “Ownership does not place him above law.”
“No,” Gabriel said. “It places neither of us above it.”
He allowed the arrest without resisting.
Richard expected humiliation.
Instead, the footage showed a calm man walking through the terminal while workers silently removed their hats.
Flight attendants paused service.
Ground crews lined the windows.
The same staff who bowed during the reveal now stood upright in protest.
Within two hours, federal prosecutors challenged the warrant. The judge withdrew it after learning the archive had been opened under lawful shareholder authority.
Gabriel was released.
Chief Pike was suspended.
Investigators searched his office and found payments from airport contractors, including the firm that created false immigration alerts.
Richard’s plan had exposed another ally.
Amelia waited outside the detention room.
Gabriel’s wrists carried red marks.
“I am sorry,” she said.
“You did not arrest me.”
“My family gave these men power.”
“You are using your power to challenge them.”
She looked at him.
“Is that enough?”
“No.”
The honesty surprised her.
Gabriel continued. “Enough is not a single choice. It is what we keep doing when this stops being news.”
Outside, reporters asked whether he intended to fire every executive connected to Richard.
Gabriel answered, “We will investigate conduct, not surnames, friendships, or fear. The airport will not become fair by replacing one ruler with another.”
Richard watched the statement from his home.
He expected revenge because revenge was how he understood authority.
