She could be removed.

No heir automatically received control.

Caroline called it the end of children being used as governance tools.

The company sold luxury projects built on displaced shelter land and redirected proceeds toward restitution. Apartments once scheduled for demolition became mixed-income housing.

Rosa Medina joined the board.

Dana Ruiz led an independent child-protection office with authority to investigate every youth contract.

Lena Ortiz published David’s unfinished investigation under both their names.

On the first page, she wrote:

Noah and Eli visited the new company offices once.

The old executive floor had been converted into shared meeting rooms. Augustus Whitmore’s enormous portrait had been moved to the archive beside documents describing his trust decisions.

Eli asked why they kept it.

Caroline answered, “Because removing a face is easier than remembering what people allowed beneath it.”

Noah asked whether he would ever run the company.

“Only if you become qualified and people choose you.”

“What if Eli wants to?”

“The same.”

Eli shook his head.

“I don’t want a job where everyone watches your mistakes on television.”

Noah considered this.

“I kind of do.”

The brothers laughed.
