Ethan’s Offer

Chapter 09 - Ethan’s Offer

Ethan requested a meeting through attorneys.

Naomi agreed to a recorded conference with Maya present.

He appeared behind protective glass in county detention.

His hair had grown uneven. The polished certainty was gone, but Naomi knew vulnerability could be another performance.

“I didn’t know Grandfather Charles planned our meeting,” he said.

“When did you learn?”

“After we were engaged.”

“And you married me anyway.”

“Because I loved you.”

“And because the trust extension depended on a spouse close enough to manage me.”

He closed his eyes.

“Both can be true.”

Naomi appreciated the honesty and hated the relief it caused.

Ethan offered access to overseas accounts in exchange for Naomi supporting bail and future supervised contact with Lily.

“Tell prosecutors,” she said.

“They want the founder token codes.”

“You don’t have them.”

“My father created a recovery path.”

“What does it unlock?”

“The reserve accounts.”

“How much?”

“Maybe four hundred million.”

“Maybe?”

“He hid assets from Mother too.”

Charles Sterling had not trusted Lenora. He built a parallel network using Reed funds, expecting Ethan to claim it eventually through marriage.

Ethan possessed half the recovery phrase.

The second half was encoded in the pendant Naomi repaired at Delacroix.

That was why the store visit mattered.

Lenora planned to obtain the pendant after purchasing the bracelet. Ethan expected Naomi to arrive for the repair collection. The jewelry counter had been selected as a controlled public confrontation where they could pressure her without appearing threatening.

The declined card disrupted the plan.

Naomi touched the pendant at her throat.

“What would have happened after you opened the reserve?”

“We would have settled the company debt and negotiated with you.”

“You attempted to steal from Lily first.”

“I thought the reserve was inaccessible.”

“So our daughter was the easier account.”

Ethan had no answer.

He gave prosecutors his half of the recovery phrase.

Naomi did not promise leniency.

Before leaving, he said, “I need you to know the first year was real.”

She stopped.

“Which part?”

“All of it.”

“Even the redirected letter?”

His expression changed.

He had redirected the first trust notice three months after they met.

The operation began before the first anniversary.

Naomi walked away.

People often asked whether love had been real as if reality were a verdict that excused or condemned everything.

The relationship had contained tenderness.

May you like

It had also contained surveillance.

Both truths would remain.
