Chapter 09 - The Founder Who Knew
Elias Vale confessed without asking anyone to understand.
Nora discovered Conrad’s first jewelry swap and confronted him. Conrad planted the sapphire in her coat with Darren’s help. Elias suspected the evidence was false but feared exposing his son would destroy the company and send Conrad to prison.
He allowed Helena to sign the termination.
He then recovered the bracelet, hid it, and paid Nora anonymously through an attorney.
“You gave her money instead of her name,” Sloane said.
“Yes.”
“You let my mother believe everyone thought she was a thief.”
“Yes.”
Elias’s honesty carried no nobility. It arrived fifteen years late, protected by age and wealth.
Helena felt anger toward him and herself.
“You built the Founder’s Trust after this,” she said.
“I built a lock because I lacked courage.”
The Solstice’s center stone opened an archive containing original trust amendments, duplicate serial records, and a confession Elias recorded years earlier but never released. If the stone and archive were joined, the employee transfer clause became enforceable.
Without the stone, Conrad could challenge the records as incomplete.
Sloane asked why Elias returned now.
“Because a camera did what I did not.”
Marisol shook her head.
“The camera did not speak. Helena held it up.”
Elias looked at her. “Then Helena did what I did not.”
“No,” Helena said. “Marisol built the evidence. Nora began it. Sloane exposed herself. Do not turn this into another story about one brave owner.”
That afternoon, Elias released a public statement admitting his role in Nora’s wrongful termination. His reputation collapsed. Museums removed his name from exhibitions. Former clients demanded investigations.
He transferred his personal shares into the employee trust immediately.
Conrad remained the final obstacle.
Then customs officers at Port Nineteen stopped a courier preparing to board a private jet.
Inside the camera battery compartment they found the Solstice necklace.
The setting was intact.
The yellow center diamond was missing.
