Arthur’s letter explained that the Vale fortune had been transferred into an irrevocable stewardship trust.
The family could live from its earnings, but no heir could own the company outright. Control would pass to the child who proved capable of protecting employees, creditors, and communities from deliberate harm.
If no child met that standard, Vale Global would become a public-benefit corporation governed by workers and independent trustees.
Arthur had signed the amendment before two witnesses.
One was Miriam Bell.
The other was Clara Voss, the missing accountant.
Helena had never found the original because Arthur hid it with a separate registration certificate. The certificate number was written in invisible ink along the letter’s margin. Heat from a desk lamp revealed it.
Nora searched the national trust registry and found the entry. The full record was sealed by court order, but its existence proved Helena’s dissolution documents were invalid.
Ethan’s lawyer took the evidence to a judge. He was released before midnight, and the demolition order was temporarily suspended.
Helena responded by claiming Arthur lacked mental capacity when he created the trust.
To defeat that claim, Ethan needed the witnesses.
Miriam agreed to testify despite threats.
Clara Voss remained missing.
Nora traced Clara’s last bank withdrawal to a train station near the northern border. A station employee remembered a frightened woman leaving a suitcase in a locker.
Inside the locker were copies of pension transfers, audio recordings of Victor, and a photograph of Clara standing beside Dr. Sabine Roth—the physician who treated Arthur during his final weeks.
On the back, Clara had written: She knows what was in the medicine.
The photograph was dated three months after Arthur’s funeral.
Dr. Roth had not fled alone.
Clara had gone with her.
A train ticket inside the suitcase pointed to a small city in Austria.
Ethan wanted to leave immediately, but Nora stopped him.
“Helena expects you to chase them,” she said. “Ask why Clara left evidence where it could be found.”
Ethan studied the locker receipt.
It had been renewed every month by automatic payment.
The most recent payment was made two days earlier.
