Luxury brands sent dresses.

A hotel delivered champagne to the woman who had spent the previous night calculating whether her mother’s unpaid hospital debt could still be collected.

Mira returned everything.

She also refused Adrian’s offer to stay at the Vale penthouse.

“I lived safely without your family by staying where you didn’t look.”

She rented a small apartment under federal protection.

Adrian respected the boundary, though part of him wanted to correct twenty-two years through immediate generosity.

Elena warned him.

“Money can become another way of deciding what she needs.”

Adrian began listening.

At the shareholder meeting, Beatrice entered through a private door while Mira walked past hundreds of retired sailors and dockworkers protesting outside.

Their signs listed lost pension payments.

One old engineer recognized the watch around Mira’s neck.

“Gabriel promised he’d fix the fund,” he said.

Mira stopped.

“What was his name?”

“Leon Price. Your father saved my hand during an engine fire.”

She asked about his pension.

Beatrice laughed.

Adrian formally voted his ten percent with Mira.

The board removed Beatrice as interim chair by one vote.

The deciding director, Senator Hale, had watched the slap from six feet away and said nothing.
