Thomas surrendered his law license voluntarily.
The bar investigation examined his participation in confidentiality agreements, guardianship litigation, and the Patron Register.
He admitted signing documents that restricted Amelia’s legal access during the first years after the fire.
He believed Eleanor’s doctors.
Later, he doubted them but feared exposing Clara.
The hearing officer asked why he continued representing the foundation.
“To monitor it from inside.”
“Did you receive compensation?”
“Yes.”
“Did you enjoy professional influence?”
“Yes.”
“Then protection was not your only motive.”
“No.”
Clara attended but did not testify for or against him.
Thomas lost his license permanently.
No criminal charges were filed because evidence did not show he knew Amelia’s location or the fire plan. Civil claims remained possible.
After the hearing, he asked Clara whether she still considered him her father.
She hated the question.
It turned relationship into a verdict she had to deliver while angry.
“You raised me,” she said.
“That isn’t an answer.”
“It is the answer I have today.”
He nodded.
Months later, they began family therapy.
Clara did not erase the years he cared for her.
