The Marlowe ballroom closed for two years.
Workers removed hidden microphones and private security passages. The Patron Register was displayed in the archive with signatures visible after legal review.
The room reopened as a public forum for cultural property claims and labor hearings.
No family weddings received priority.
At the first hearing, a catering worker described being assaulted by a donor at another foundation gala. Security had removed the worker instead of the donor.
The panel ordered compensation and policy changes.
Clara sat in the audience.
The chandelier above her remained the same.
She touched her cheek unconsciously.
The physical mark had disappeared months earlier.
Memory had not.
After the hearing, Nina Bell asked whether Clara wanted the exact location of the slap marked in the floor.
“No.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want people taking photographs where it happened.”
The room’s history was documented without turning Clara’s body into an attraction.
