Hartwell Media owned thirty-seven local stations, four newspapers, and a streaming platform with twelve million subscribers.

For years, Damien treated the company as Elena’s decorative inheritance. He underestimated what happened when she finally used it.

The broadcast began at seven o’clock.

Elena sat at a plain desk beside Margaret, Marissa, and an independent investigative editor. They released the gala audio, the forged psychiatric petition, the bigamy records, and verified financial transfers. Marissa described Crosswell without revealing details that could harm other patients.

Margaret admitted her own failure.

“I encouraged my daughter to remain polite when she was trying to tell me she was afraid,” she said. “Authority does not excuse blindness. Love does not excuse it either.”

The admission changed the tone. Viewers expected a wealthy family defending its image. Instead, they saw a mother refusing to edit herself into innocence.

Halfway through the broadcast, the feed cut.

Every Hartwell station went black.

Technicians discovered a remote command issued through chairman Russell Crane’s account. Backup systems activated after three minutes, but the interruption proved Damien still had help inside the company.

Crane denied involvement.

Then Elena’s phone rang on the live desk.

Damien.

The producer wanted to disconnect. Elena answered on speaker.

“You wanted everyone to listen,” Damien said. “Now let them.”

He claimed Ben attacked him on the mountain. He said Marissa blackmailed Celeste. He accused Margaret of using her daughter’s pain to regain control of Hartwell Media.

Elena let him speak until he asked whether she missed him.

“No,” she said. “I miss the person I became smaller to keep alive. She is returning.”

Damien’s voice hardened.

“You think your mother saved you.”

“She opened a line. I chose to speak.”

He ended the call.

The audience heard the change in his voice—the movement from charm to threat. It was not a legal confession, but it destroyed the image Celeste had built.

The broadcast resumed across every platform.

By midnight, three Cross Capital directors resigned. Two former girlfriends contacted investigators. Seven patients’ families demanded access to Crosswell records.
