Grant faced trial before Vivienne.
His cooperation exposed the larger conspiracy, but the assault video and messages were undeniable.
His defense argued emotional manipulation by Vivienne, career pressure, and Elena’s concealment of wealth.
The prosecutor began with the ballroom footage.
Grant grabbing Elena.
Grant demanding she kneel.
Grant striking her.
Nina Cole testified that estate management ordered catering workers not to intervene.
Lorraine testified about Grant’s affair and archive requests.
Rose testified about confinement.
Then Elena took the stand.
Grant’s attorney asked whether she hid billions during marriage.
“Yes.”
“Did you believe that was honest?”
“No.”
The courtroom shifted.
“Then you admit deceiving your husband.”
“I withheld a legal beneficial interest because my family history made disclosure dangerous. It damaged intimacy. It did not cause his crimes.”
“Did you enjoy revealing your power after he rejected you?”
“No.”
“Did you freeze the company to punish him?”
“I froze assets because documents were being destroyed and a major transfer was minutes from completion.”
The attorney displayed Elena’s call time.
“Thirty-one minutes after the slap.”
“Yes.”
“Were you angry?”
“Yes.”
“Then this was revenge.”
Elena looked toward Grant.
“Anger can motivate a lawful action. Evidence determines whether the action is justified.”
The prosecutor introduced the planned humiliation message.
Leave the ballroom to me.
Grant chose to testify.
He admitted the affair, coercive divorce strategy, archive access, and public slap. He denied intending permanent harm to Rose.
The prosecutor asked why he moved an elderly woman without informing her daughter.
“I believed Elena would use Rose to block the promotion.”
“You believed the owner would use her own mother to block you from managing her property?”
Grant closed his eyes.
“When you say it that way—”
“It happened that way.”
The jury convicted him of assault, coercive control, fraud, unlawful confinement, and obstruction. Cooperation reduced the sentence but did not prevent prison.
At sentencing, Grant apologized.
Elena listened.
He said he loved her.
He said ambition distorted him.
He said Vivienne manipulated him.
All could be partly true.
None erased agency.
Elena requested no special maximum and no leniency.
