Evelyn and Dr. Vale faced separate trials.
Vale accepted a cooperation agreement. He admitted altering Claire’s records, drugging Arthur and assisting after the fall.
Evelyn pleaded not guilty.
Her defense argued that Arthur’s death was accidental and Claire’s medication was intended to calm dangerous agitation. The trust documents, they said, reflected legitimate succession planning.
The prosecution presented the suite recording.
Then Arthur’s smartwatch audio.
Vale testified that Evelyn instructed him to delay the ambulance after Arthur fell.
Emma described false psychiatric reports.
Gabriel testified about the family pattern and his own failure to question it.
Claire testified last.
Evelyn’s attorney asked whether Claire hated her mother-in-law.
“Yes,” Claire said.
The honesty surprised the courtroom.
The attorney smiled.
Claire continued.
“I hate what she did. The evidence does not depend on whether my feelings are generous.”
The jury convicted Evelyn of attempted murder, conspiracy, fraud, unlawful medication and Arthur’s homicide. Vale received a substantial sentence under his agreement.
Westbridge executives and attorneys faced separate fraud and conspiracy charges.
At sentencing, Evelyn described herself as the woman who built Sterling Medical beside Arthur.
The judge corrected her.
“You helped build an institution and later treated its patients, records and family members as tools of private control.”
Evelyn received life imprisonment with the possibility of review only after decades.
Gabriel cried.
Claire did not comfort him during the hearing.
