Dr. Vale’s Private Ward

Chapter 06 - Dr. Vale’s Private Ward

Dr. Adrian Vale had served the Sterling family for seventeen years.

He treated Evelyn’s migraines, Arthur’s heart condition and Gabriel’s injuries after a college accident. He attended Christmas dinners and hospital galas.

He also controlled a private hospital ward where wealthy patients received discreet treatment under altered records.

Investigators searched Vale’s office.

They found files labeled by legal objective rather than diagnosis.

FOUNDATION CONTROL.

TRUST CAPACITY.

PREGNANCY RISK.

ARTHUR FALL.

Claire’s file contained instructions from Evelyn.

Increase confusion before trustee meeting.

Document emotional instability.

Avoid fetal toxicology.

Arthur’s file contained a prescription for a blood-pressure medication he had never been authorized to receive. The drug could cause dizziness and increase fall risk.

Vale initially denied administering it.

Pharmacy footage showed his assistant delivering the medication to Sterling Estate hours before Arthur fell.

The assistant cooperated.

She said Evelyn described the dose as a harmless way to keep Arthur calm during a difficult family meeting. Vale approved it without examining Arthur.

After the fall, Evelyn called him before emergency services.

Vale arrived at the estate and instructed staff not to move the body. He then removed Arthur’s water glass and medication case.

The accidental-death report relied on Vale’s statement.

The hidden camera had not recorded the library.

But Arthur’s smartwatch had.

The device captured his heart rate, location and partial audio.

Evelyn’s voice said, “If you sign the merger, none of this has to become ugly.”

Arthur answered, “You already made it ugly.”

A struggle followed.

Then impact.

Vale’s voice entered seven minutes later.

“He’s breathing.”

Evelyn said, “Not for long if the ambulance reaches the wrong hospital.”
