When Anna turned eleven, she asked why a red light appeared in every old photograph of the hospital room.
Claire and Gabriel had planned to tell her the history gradually.
They explained that someone tried to use medicine and family power to control what happened before she was born. A camera preserved evidence, doctors protected her and many people changed the hospital afterward.
Anna asked whether Grandma Evelyn loved her.
Claire did not answer with a simple lie.
“She may have felt love. She also made choices that endangered you.”
“Can both be true?”
“Yes.”
Anna looked uncomfortable.
Truth often was.
They did not show her the full recording.
She would decide later whether she wanted to see protected materials.
Anna cared more about the fact that her grandfather installed the camera.
“Why didn’t he just stop her?”
Claire answered honestly.
“He tried too late and indirectly.”
The family did not convert Arthur into a perfect rescuer.
He created the evidence system.
