Nina Torres invited Victoria to help set up her wedding at Harbor Commons.
Not as a friend.
As a paid cooperative worker.
Victoria considered declining.
Then she accepted.
Nina married beside the same pool. The event was simple, crowded, and slightly disorganized.
A child dropped the rings near the water.
No one screamed.
A server spilled red juice across the tablecloth.
Nina helped move the dishes.
Victoria watched without turning the mistake into a moral test.
After the ceremony, Nina said, “You kept waiting for me to forgive you.”
“I did.”
“I don’t know if I have.”
“That’s okay.”
“It has to be.”
Victoria nodded.
Forgiveness belonged to the person harmed, not the person seeking a cleaner ending.
She remained after guests left and helped fold tables.
