Claire Carrington’s Room

Chapter 06 - Claire Carrington’s Room
The rehabilitation residence in Maine operated under the name North Haven Recovery.
Its director denied having a Claire Carrington.
Maya presented the payment code from the archive.
The director became pale.
A patient called Catherine Reed had lived in the secure west cottage for seven years. She entered with burn injuries, memory impairment, and legal papers declaring her under private guardianship.
The guardian was Mason Carrington.
Alexandra traveled north with Isaac and an independent physician.
Victoria remained behind under investigation.
Mason was detained after attempting to access the estate helipad.
At North Haven, Alexandra walked through a locked garden gate.
A woman sat beneath a cedar tree drawing ships.
Scars crossed her hands and neck. Her dark hair had been cut short. She looked older than the photographs and younger than the grief Alexandra had carried.
“Claire?”
The woman looked up.
Recognition arrived slowly.
“Mom?”
Alexandra fell to her knees.
Claire touched her face as if checking whether memory had become physical.
Mason had visited twice a year. He told Claire that Alexandra died from an overdose after the yacht accident. He said the board wanted Claire prosecuted for pension theft and that remaining hidden protected the family.
Medication kept her confused.
Letters she wrote never left the residence.
Mason brought photographs of Victoria during the engagement.
“He said after the wedding he could sell Azure Coast and restore the pension before anyone discovered the losses,” Claire explained. “Then he would bring me home.”
He transformed return into a reward she could earn by waiting.
Claire remembered the accident.
She and Elena Ruiz created a controlled engine fire. Mason learned of the plan through a security employee. He ordered the fuel system altered so the fire would destroy the yacht and Claire.
Elena pulled her into the maintenance boat.
Carrington guards intercepted them near shore. Elena escaped with the original files. Claire was taken.
No one knew where Elena went.
The archive’s wet phone contained one unrecognized participant in the trustee livestream.
A gray-haired woman listed as E. Ruiz.

Elena had been watching Victoria throw the phone into the pool.
She had returned.
