CHAPTER 10: The Blackwood Boardroom Wakes Up

At 11:47 p.m., every member of the Blackwood Holdings emergency board received a notification.

Ethan had not called a meeting in panic since the day his father died. When the directors saw his name flashing across their screens near midnight, they answered from mansions, hotels, private jets, and dark bedrooms.

Vanessa’s mother appeared first, wrapped in silk, annoyed before she was afraid.

“Ethan, this had better be important.”

“It is,” Ethan said.

He was standing in Security Room B with Dr. Hayes beside him. Behind them, Marcus had prepared the footage. The police officers remained visible enough to make the call feel less like a board meeting and more like the beginning of a criminal record.

Ethan shared the screen.

No introduction. No warning.

Just the footage.

The board watched Vanessa enter Olivia’s hospital room. They watched the reflected movement. They watched the boot rise. They watched Olivia fall.

Vanessa’s mother stopped breathing.

A senior director muttered, “My God.”

Ethan then held up the separation agreement found in Vanessa’s purse.

“She attacked my wife,” he said, “then intended to pressure her into signing a divorce settlement while she was injured and afraid.”

Vanessa’s mother tried to recover. “This is a family matter. We should handle it privately.”

Dr. Hayes leaned toward the camera. “A violent assault inside a hospital is not a family matter.”

The old woman glared. “And you are?”

“Her uncle,” he said. “And the director of the hospital where your daughter committed the assault.”

Silence spread across the call.

Ethan looked directly into the camera.

“As of this minute, Vanessa Cross is removed from every Blackwood project, trust committee, advisory position, and hotel partnership. Any director who objects can resign before sunrise.”

No one objected.

For the first time in years, the Blackwood name protected Olivia instead of crushing her.
