Chapter 17 - Serena’s Last Appeal
Serena appealed her conviction, arguing that Samuel controlled the plan and she acted under marital pressure.
The court reviewed her messages, financial agreements and foundation documents.
It rejected the appeal.
The decision stated that influence within a marriage did not erase independent planning, concealment and expected profit.
Serena later wrote Evelyn an apology.
She said she had always felt judged by the Pierce family and wanted a position no one could revoke. The Northline deal promised permanent authority.
Evelyn replied once.
“Wanting security does not explain choosing my death as the contract condition.”
She sent no further letters.
Unlike Samuel, Serena shared no childhood, parenthood or complicated bond with her. Evelyn did not owe identical relationships to people convicted in the same case.
