He said the vial contained a harmless sleep aid and the text message reflected ordinary concern.

His attorneys called it affectionate.
Investigators recovered the deleted conversation before that message.
Serena: CALVIN ADDED IT.
Samuel: FULL DOSE?
Serena: YES. SHE HASN’T TOUCHED THE GLASS YET.
Samuel: KEEP THE WAITER THERE. I NEED CONFIRMATION.
After Evelyn replied EVERY DROP, Samuel sent:
FINALLY. CALL BELL. BOARD IN THIRTY.
The timeline destroyed ambiguity.
He did not call an ambulance first.
He called the doctor who prepared the incapacity letter and the banker handling the transfer.
Noah’s testimony established that Samuel instructed him to monitor the glass.
The bartender, Calvin Ross, initially denied adding anything. Video showed him accepting the vial. After learning toxicology could link the sample to Bell’s clinic, he cooperated.
Calvin said Samuel threatened to expose his undocumented brother and end his career if he refused.
He received reduced charges after providing the remaining vial and instructions stored in his locker.
Evelyn met him once during the investigation.
He apologized.
She did not tell him fear removed responsibility.
She also did not pretend Samuel’s power was irrelevant.
Calvin entered a protection program and testified.
Noah faced no charges. He had preserved the sample, warned Evelyn and documented the vial.
Samuel’s final defense became personal.
He said his mother had emotionally controlled him for decades and refused to recognize his leadership. He described the poison as a desperate attempt to delay a decision harmful to thousands of employees.
Evelyn listened from the gallery.
