Federal storage destroyed the sample under court procedures once appeals ended.
Noah felt unexpectedly relieved.
Reporters had asked to photograph it. A streaming company wanted a replica for a documentary. The Pierce archive requested the lid.
He opposed every request.
The container had been ordinary.
That was its power.
A kitchen object available within seconds preserved evidence worth billions and protected a life. Turning it into a sacred artifact would obscure the real lesson: employees needed access to simple tools and authority to use them.
Noah kept no souvenir.
He remembered the weight of the tray shielding Evelyn’s hands and the sound of whiskey striking plastic.
He also remembered fear.
