Samuel demanded that Evelyn be transported to Pierce Memorial Hospital.
The hospital shared the family name, and Dr. Marcus Bell was waiting there.
Noah heard the instruction and repeated the white-glass phrase to the paramedics.
Their route changed.
Evelyn was taken to Saint Catherine’s, an independent teaching hospital across the city. Samuel followed in his car, furious that emergency staff ignored him.
At the hospital, Evelyn opened her eyes.
Her pulse and blood pressure were elevated, but she had swallowed none of the whiskey. Dr. Ortiz placed her inside a protected observation room and informed Samuel that no visitors were permitted until toxicology review.
He claimed medical proxy authority.
Ortiz asked for the original document.
Samuel produced a copy signed six months earlier.
Evelyn denied signing it.
The signature was convincing. The document language was not.
It transferred medical decisions to Samuel and authorized immediate incapacity certification following “a public episode of confusion, collapse or unsafe behavior.”
No standard proxy described future symptoms so specifically.
Ortiz contacted federal medical-crimes investigator Lena Cole.
The sealed whiskey arrived under chain of custody. Preliminary testing identified a potent combination of sedative and cardiac medication capable of causing disorientation, dangerous rhythm changes and loss of consciousness.
The dose could have killed Evelyn.
Samuel waited outside the room and told relatives his mother had suffered another neurological event.
He released the prepared statement to the press.
At 11:42 p.m., he convened an emergency board call.
He presented Bell’s prior diagnosis, the gala collapse and the medical proxy. He requested temporary voting control before Northline withdrew its offer.
Evelyn listened from her hospital bed through a secure connection arranged by the trust attorney.
Samuel described her as unable to understand the sale.
Then Evelyn turned on her camera.
“I understand that my son tried to complete a transaction before confirming whether I was alive.”
The board became silent.
Samuel stared at the screen.
Evelyn held up the toxicology preservation receipt.
“The drink you asked me to finish is now federal evidence.”
Samuel ended the call.
