Chapter 12 - Victor’s Counterattack
From jail, Victor continued fighting.
His attorneys challenged the ledger, the trust and Noah’s right to inherit. They petitioned family court to remove Sarah as trustee, claiming she had endangered her son by bringing him into a hostile corporate meeting.
They also released private medical records showing Sarah received treatment for panic attacks after Daniel’s death.
The strategy was familiar.
When facts became dangerous, Victor made the person presenting them appear unstable.
Sarah nearly withdrew from public view.
Every television discussion seemed to analyze her voice, clothes and parenting. Commentators asked why she had remained hidden for four years if Daniel was innocent. Few mentioned the threats or false restraining order.
Noah began having nightmares about the mansion doors locking again.
A child psychologist advised Sarah to keep him away from hearings unless his presence was legally necessary. Sarah agreed. She would no longer let the company use her son as a symbol, even a sympathetic one.
Laura testified in family court.
She admitted her own delay and described Victor’s campaign to isolate Sarah. Emily presented the threatening messages sent after preserving Noah’s uploads. Police documented the surveillance photographs recovered from Owen.
The judge denied Victor’s petition.
More importantly, the order prohibited all parties from using Noah’s image in corporate advertising or legal publicity.
Sarah thanked the judge.
Outside court, a reporter asked whether she feared looking weak by keeping Noah away from future proceedings.
Sarah stopped.
“My son pulled a book from his backpack because every adult system around him had failed. Protecting him now is not weakness. It is the first responsibility those systems owe him.”
The statement spread widely.
Employees began sending letters describing how Victor used mental-health claims and family pressure to silence dissent. A former executive revealed that Victor once forced her to resign after she requested maternity leave, then told the board she was emotionally unreliable.
The case widened beyond one inheritance.
