The county prosecutor invited Rebecca to a private meeting before Daniel’s hearing.
Chief Vance attended without explanation.
They offered Daniel immediate release.
In exchange, he would plead guilty to evidence possession, accept probation, and agree never to sue the department.
Rebecca would surrender Michael’s drive.
Vance called it a practical resolution.
Rebecca called it obstruction.
The prosecutor looked uncomfortable.
Vance did not.
“You have already lost one partner,” he said. “Do not lose your brother because you enjoy being right.”
Rebecca recorded the sentence with permission required under state law? She did not rely on it.
She wrote it down immediately after leaving and emailed the note to federal counsel.
Daniel rejected the offer.
“I will not plead guilty so they can call the lie fair.”
The hearing was scheduled for Friday.
By Thursday night, two witnesses withdrew.
A courthouse clerk received an anonymous warning.
Rebecca’s car window was broken, but nothing was stolen.
Then Rourke appeared in the courtroom before she testified.
