What the Cameras Saw

Chapter 06 - What the Cameras Saw
The courthouse had four cameras covering the room.
One faced the gallery.
One faced the bench.
Two covered the entrances.
All four recorded Rourke walking directly toward Rebecca.
The footage showed her seated with both hands visible.
It showed him speaking first.
It showed his arm rise.
It showed Rebecca block, step away, and use one kick only after his second strike.
The audio captured his warning.
You should have taken the deal.
Judge Eleanor Brooks ordered the courtroom locked.
No one left.
Rourke demanded Rebecca’s arrest for assaulting an officer.
The judge watched the footage twice.
Then she ordered the bailiff to remove Rourke’s weapon and place him in custody.
Chief Vance stood in the rear of the gallery.
Rebecca saw him sending a message on his phone.
Federal agents entered less than three minutes later.
They had been waiting outside at Rebecca’s request.
One agent took Vance’s phone before he could delete the message.
The screen remained open.
Handle Sloan before she gets sworn in.
The message had been sent to Rourke twelve minutes before the attack.
