Adrian Vale stopped in the middle of the glass lobby.
Claire Rowan stood near the reception desk.
One hand rested protectively on the shoulder of a small boy.
Another boy stood on her other side.
Twins.
Both about four years old, both with soft brown hair and gray-blue eyes.
Adrian’s eyes.
One held a green toy dinosaur. The other clutched Claire’s hand and stared up at Adrian with open curiosity.
Claire’s face tightened when she saw him.
“Who are they?” he asked.
Claire pulled the boys closer.
“You do not get to ask me that first.”
The child with the dinosaur looked between them.
“Mom,” he whispered, “is that the man from the picture?”
Adrian’s breath stopped.

The entire lobby seemed to lean toward the answer.
