The gala guests began making decisions.
Three trustees from Hart Meridian asked Adrian for an emergency meeting. The hospital foundation director requested copies of the forged documents because Celeste had recently sought access to donor accounts.
Celeste’s business partner attempted to leave through the side corridor.
Hotel security stopped him after the manager discovered he had entered the children’s lounge twice that evening.
Grace did not celebrate.
She sat beside Oliver near the service corridor while a medic cleaned the cut on her hand. Oliver refused to let go of her sleeve.
When he ran across a dangerous ballroom, he ran toward the person whose love had never required good behavior.
Adrian approached Grace.
“I failed both of you.”
Grace looked at him.
“Yes.”
The answer hurt because it was honest.
She did not rush to forgive him simply because he finally saw the truth.
Adrian nodded.
“What do you need now?”
Grace looked toward Oliver.
“For him to know the adults around him cannot disappear without explanation.”
