Chapter 03 - The Woman in the White Shirt
Grace remained kneeling while hotel security cleared the broken glass.
Celeste crossed the ballroom, her silver gown catching the chandelier light.
“She is staff,” she said. “She caused a dangerous scene.”
Grace stood slowly. “I did not know Oliver would be here tonight,” she said.
Celeste laughed.
“This is his father’s engagement gala.”
“I was hired by the catering agency this morning. The client name was withheld.”
Adrian studied Grace.
“Why are you working temporary events? You resigned to take a position in London.”
Grace looked at him with disbelief.
“I never resigned.”
Celeste stepped between them.
“Adrian, she is trying to manipulate you in front of the press.”
Grace reached into her apron pocket and removed a folded envelope.
“I came because I finally found a way around the security block at your home and office.”
Celeste’s face tightened.
Adrian saw it.
Grace held out the envelope.
Inside was a dismissal notice bearing Adrian’s electronic signature.
The date matched the day Grace supposedly resigned.
Adrian stared at the signature.
