Adrian changed his calendar before his public image.
He canceled two overseas trips.
Moved board meetings out of dinner hours.
Attended Oliver’s therapy sessions without asking assistants for summaries.
Adrian also stopped calling fear a tantrum.
The first time Oliver cried before school, Adrian sat on the floor beside him instead of promising a reward for stopping. They arrived late.
Nothing collapsed.
Grace watched these changes carefully.
Six months after the gala, Adrian and Oliver returned to the Grand Meridian Ballroom. Oliver stopped near the place where the champagne tower had fallen.
His breathing changed.
Adrian knelt.
“We can leave.”
Oliver looked toward Grace, who waited several steps away.
Then he looked back at his father.
“Can we stay if you stay?”
Adrian held out his hand.
“I will stay.”
