Chapter 02 - The Engagement Gala
The gala was supposed to announce a perfect future.
Celeste had designed every detail.
Adrian believed the evening would help his son accept the marriage. Celeste had told him Oliver needed structure, ceremony, and proof that the household was moving forward after years of grief.
Oliver’s mother, Madeline, died when he was three.
Grace Miller arrived the week after the funeral.
Then Grace disappeared.
A resignation letter appeared on Adrian’s desk stating she had accepted a better position overseas. Celeste said Grace had asked for additional money before leaving. Adrian felt betrayed but did not chase someone who seemed eager to go.
Oliver never believed it.
Now the boy clung to Grace beneath shattered crystal.
Adrian looked toward Celeste.
She was not surprised to see Grace.
