Chapter 10 - The Foundation Board

Lauren joined the emergency foundation meeting from her hospital bed.

Her shoulder was immobilized. A bruise darkened one side of her face. She refused to hide either.

The Whitmore family attorney requested postponement.

Lauren declined.

The board reviewed the forged documents, medical evidence, and audio recording.

Every pending transaction involving Whitmore Development was frozen.

The family office lost access to foundation accounts.

The physician who created the false incapacity notes was suspended and referred for investigation.

One board member asked why Lauren had not reported her suspicions earlier.

She looked directly into the camera.

“Because each event was small enough to explain.”

A fainting spell.

A controlling comment.

A signature tab placed in the wrong folder.

A fiancé answering questions for her.

A future mother-in-law insisting she was tired.

“Abuse survives by arriving as separate inconveniences,” Lauren said. “The pattern becomes visible only after someone believes the person living inside it.”

The board voted unanimously to protect the trust from spousal or family control.

The Whitmores lost the money before Lauren left the hospital.
