The Push

Chapter 04 - The Push

Lauren moved toward the balcony entrance.

Julian blocked her again.

“You are upset.”

“You put something in my drinks.”

“You have been exhausted for weeks.”

“Because your mother kept handing me tea.”

His face changed.

The careful fiancé disappeared.

“You will sign the papers.”

Lauren reached for her phone.

Julian knocked it from her hand.

The device slid beneath a chair.

Below, Margaret looked up.

Lauren called her name.

Margaret did not move.

Charles stared at Julian.

No one told him to stop.

Lauren backed toward the railing.

Julian held the folder against his chest.

“You can walk downstairs calm, sign in front of witnesses, and continue with the wedding.”

“And if I do not?”

He looked over the railing.

For one second, Lauren saw calculation.

Not rage.

Calculation.

She turned to reach the door.

Julian placed both hands against her shoulder.

The force pushed her sideways.

Her hip struck the stone rail.

Her balance disappeared.

Lauren caught the top ledge with one hand.

Julian looked at her fingers.

Then he pulled them free.

The lawn, balcony, and pale mansion wall turned over one another.

Lauren fell onto the decorative stone bed below.
